{Dog-Gone #2} Fleece Puff Dog Toy

September 26, 2012 in Do it your Dog-Gone Self, Pups

Did you try making the fleece dog ropes I blogged about a couple weeks ago? My girls have been running around the house with theirs ever since! I had some scraps leftover and thought it’d be fun to make another fleece dog toy… but this one is better suited for LIGHT CHEWERS!

So stinking simple! These would be great to make for cats too. I could see them tied onto a string and bounced around the room with a cat in hot pursuit!

Emma loved it – but I’ll admit – I wouldn’t let her play with it unsupervised. She’s a TOUGH chewer… and this toy is much better suited for light chewers.

Oh goodness I love that boxer face!

Next time you start to shell out $10 for a dog toy… why don’t you just make it your dog-gone self!

Guest Bath – Beachy Rustic Bathroom – The Flip Side

August 14, 2012 in Bathrooms, Gettin' Crafty, Wall Decor

Last week I showed you the planked wood wall in this tiny, tiny guest bathroom. Today – I’ll share the other side!

It’s a work in progress… I’m not sure I’m every really DONE with a project. Do you ever feel that way?

Tuh dah!  No really…. That’s wall-to-wall in this tiny space. That nook is less than two feet wide. It’s probably right at 23.5″. I know this because the stand is 23″ and with the added screw heads it just baaaaarely wiggled its way back there.

Just to give you a reminder of how far she’s come… remember these posts?

Tiling the floor  -  Removing the shelves  -  Installing the toilet  -  Plank Wall

Yeah… that was a collapsable bookshelf that was glued, nailed, screwed and caulked upside down on the wall. To say that I beat the hellsinki out of it to get it down is an understatement. I chip-chip-chipped away at the caulk and then went at the wall with SEVERAL layers of spackle. When it came time to sand the surface I broke out my random orbital sander… no joke… and went to town. I was a dusty mess… NOTE – when you’re in a pinch and you just want to get it over with, take off your tank top and wrap it around your head as a poor-girl’s dust mask. Hey… it works. I swear.

Originally I was going to try to build shelves for this space, but when I saw the perfectly-sized bathroom stand I knew I had to go with option B. It cost me less than the wood would have for the shelves! … and was MUCH faster.

I created the Ball Jar print using graphics from the oh-so-fab Graphics Fairy. I’m not sure if it will live there forever, but I needed something to fill the space until I find THE ONE.

Quick & Free Drop Cloth Lampshade

August 5, 2012 in Bedrooms, Building and Repurposing, Gettin' Crafty, Thrifty Thursday

Wow! I feel like I really got my two-days worth out of this past weekend. I was more productive than I ever would have predicted. I cranked out 3 projects and am thisssss close to being done with the guest bathroom. Yessss!

I’m not spilling the beans on the bathroom just yet. That’ll come later this week. Today I wanted to follow-up on a post from last week -

Remember the jar lamp I scored while antiquing?  I was just about to throw out the old, dusty red shade in a marathon cleaning session Saturday morning… but then I had an idea!

Step 1: Have second thoughts as you’re jusssst about to toss the dusty old shade in the trash.

Step 2: Realize you have nothing to lose and start tearing the fabric (and liner) off the wire frame.

Step 3: Dig around in closet and find some leftover drop cloths that you already washed and ironed from another project. Tear into strips and knot around wire to start.

Step 4: Wrap, wrap and wrap some more. When you get to the end of the strip, just knot another on!

Step 5: Finish off with one last knot, flip it over and step back to admire your handiwork.

Want to see it on the lamp?  I thought you might!

It’s a little shabby…. a little chic (I hope). I love the subtle frayed edges of the fabric. Best part – it was FREE!

So what do you think? Not bad for a $9 investment, right?

Can’t wait to spill the beans on some of my other weekend projects! I hope you love them!
