If you’re seeing this for the first time – check out Part 1 and Part 2

Brace yourself.  It’s dark.  REALLY. DARK.

I added a bit of ebony to the dark walnut… and let me tell you… a little goes a LONNNG way.  Careful what you wish for Dana! You wanted dark and you. got. it. Here’s a look at the table with the stain still “soaking”:

and here ya go. DARK DARK DARK Table. Wuh oh!

I think I’ll just simmer on that for a bit and see what I think after living with it for a bit.

$10 Table – Part 2

I drug this table home over a month ago.  See BEFORE PICS here.

I finally remembered to grab more sand paper and now I can get back on the horse! Here’s a peek at how he’s coming along:

SANDING IS DONE!  FIIIINALLY. When I emailed my Mom these pictures, she wrote back, “You better not paint that top!”  She loved the grain as much as I do.

I want a really, really dark top on this table. I think it will be an awesome contrast with the white base and give it a bit more modern look. I decided to try a couple coats of Dark Walnut first and see where it went from there…

That’s the first coat “cooking”… and

…and after wiping the excess off…

Call me crazy, but I think I’ll try mixing a little ebony with the dark walnut and make it even DARKER!

$10 Table – Part 1

May 10, 2011 in Basement, Building and Repurposing, Kitchen

I picked this table up a couple days ago for $10 off Craigslist. I’m going to sand down the top, stain and poly.  Then I’ll paint the bottom with Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint!  I see it finding a home in the basement for crafting.

Here are the before pictures. Trust me, I started second guessing myself the moment I saw it. But what did I have to lose?  $10?

I couldn’t fight the urge to grab my sander and jump right in. Didn’t want to look at those marks any longer!  This is as far as I got today…  Need to get more sandpaper…

Um… WOW! I never would have thought that gorgeous grain was under all that gunk. I couldn’t see past the stains!  Stay tuned for more updates on this bad boy.
