Vintage Soda Crate Dog Feeder!

Vintage Soda Crate Dog Feeder

I ventured into the garage one Sunday, determined to make raised dog feeders for both of them. I quickly realized I didn’t have the right boards on hand and was too lazy to go to Lowes. …and then I spotted it. The Oklahoma Beverage Co. vintage crate that Christy gave me. Oh happy day! I had an idea!

Here’s a run-down on how I did it:

Soda Crate Dog Feeder How To DIY

First, I found a piece of scrap plywood I had lying around and cut it to the appropriate size for my crate. Then, I traced circles on the boards for my silver dog bowls. Using a drill, I created starter-holes to make it easier to cut the circles out with my jigsaw. Easy Peasy! Then I stained both sides of the plywood with Minwax Express Color Wiping Stain in Crimson to match the worn red lettering on the crate.  I attached plates to the bottom and screwed in the bun feet. Staining them with Minwax Weathered Oak gave them the perfect aged tone to complement the crate without competing.  I attached the top with hinges just in case someone wanted to store things inside or make it easier to clean/dust.

…and when all was said and done:

Milk Crate Dog Bed

April 1, 2013 in Do it your Dog-Gone Self, Furniture Makeovers, Gettin' Crafty, Pups

It’s no secret that I love dogs… as in fall to my knees babbling baby-talk when Fido sports some puppy-dog eyes and flashes some droopy jowls my way. Yeah… That kind of love.

I was lucky enough to stumble across some antique milk crates last year and have been hoarding storing them in my shed ever since. (Houston, I have a problem.) I have a few throughout my house as decoration and even have two stacked in my bedroom as a TV stand. …and yes, I still have an entire stack in the shed. Don’t judge me!

Long story short, I broke out some power tools and turned an antique milk crate into the cutest little dog bed you ever did see! My pups are too big, so this fun milk crate dog bed is available in my Etsy store.

Here’s a quick photo collage to give you an idea of how it all went down:

Trust me, the saw will work a LOT better when you use a blade specifically made for cutting through metal. I learned the hard way, even managing to snap my wood-blade. Whoops!

With a little more magic, I whipped up this cutie-pa-tootie:

The bed is cushioned with a removable pillow. Plus, the pillow cover zippers on and off, making it a cinch to toss it in the washing machine!

I just love the stamped letters on this crate. If only I was from Forestville, Connecticut!

I’d love to hear what you think – would your little pupper-nut look overwhelmingly cute in this milk crate dog bed?

{Dog-Gone #2} Fleece Puff Dog Toy

September 26, 2012 in Do it your Dog-Gone Self, Pups

Did you try making the fleece dog ropes I blogged about a couple weeks ago? My girls have been running around the house with theirs ever since! I had some scraps leftover and thought it’d be fun to make another fleece dog toy… but this one is better suited for LIGHT CHEWERS!

So stinking simple! These would be great to make for cats too. I could see them tied onto a string and bounced around the room with a cat in hot pursuit!

Emma loved it – but I’ll admit – I wouldn’t let her play with it unsupervised. She’s a TOUGH chewer… and this toy is much better suited for light chewers.

Oh goodness I love that boxer face!

Next time you start to shell out $10 for a dog toy… why don’t you just make it your dog-gone self!
