Following in their Footsteps

“Better late than never”…. that’s the title of Young House Love’s blog post that inspired this project…. and I have to say – I’m COMPLETELY following in their footsteps. I whipped up this little number for Christy (oldest Sis) back in March as a surprise. At the time I wasn’t blogging though… so unfortunately I don’t have any “before” pics. Do ya think it took me long enough to share this?! Yeah… I think so!
Sherry at Young House Love transformed a cheese plate with a dated design into a great modern piece. Only days before reading her post I had seen a cheese plate (and cloche?) at a thrift store for $2. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I bought the cheese plate, mod podge, and some scrapbook paper. Here’s where my creation varies… Instead of opting for a standard piece of paper, I found this awesome cut-out sheet and thought it would look AWESOME with the wood showing through.
Back at home I carefully cut a circle out of the paper with a plastic bowl that conveniently was the PERFECT size. I brushed a thin layer of mod podge onto the back of the scrapbook paper and carefully lined it up on the cheese plate. Then I proceeded to add 5-6 THIN layers of mod podge over the scrapbook paper. Make sure to let it dry in between layers!
The finished product? Viola!
Not too shabby for a $2 thrift store cast-away cheese board!
Don’t forget to check out out the awesome link parties where I’ll post this project!

I have got to head to a thrift shop soon! I love this little cloche! Super cute! Thanks for linking up @ Show & Share. I so appreciate the support!
$2?!?! I wish! I always have my eyes open for cloches, and never any luck!
I love it! It turned out great. The stencil like paper just makes it perfect.

Thanks Rachel! It now lives on my sister’s fireplace… lucky girl.
Wow, it looks really good! What does your sister have inside of it now? Anything? Or does she not want to cover up that pretty bottom
I just bought one of these at our nearby consignment shop… haven’t figured out quite what I’m going to do with it yet though.
This is the sister and I can’t stand the thought of covering much of it up! So I feabily stuck three papermache eggs in there.
…and maybe some pretty ornaments at Christmas?!
[...] wax and leave it just the way it is? White, simple and crisp…. Or jazz it up a bit. My last cheese cloche makeover involved some scrapbook paper. I gifted that one to my sister last year. I loved the look… [...]
